  • Jill Campbell

    Director/Producer/Editor

    Jill is the independent documentary filmmaker behind "Beyond the Gaze." She wears multiple hats on the project, serving as the film's Director, Producer, and Editor.

    Shifting Gears from Theater to Documentaries: Jill's career began in the world of theater, writing and producing plays in New York City's Off-Broadway scene. She then transitioned into documentary filmmaking. These films have garnered recognition at major film festivals worldwide. "Beyond the Gaze" is Jill's third feature film as a director. Her past works include "Mr. Chibbs" (2017), a critically acclaimed documentary following the rise and fall of basketball star Kenny Anderson, and "Seat 20D" (2020), a poignant story of an artist's healing journey through self-expression. Both films are available for streaming on Peacock, Apple TV, Amazon and Kanopy.

    Jill holds a Master of Fine Arts degree with a focus on documentary filmmaking from Hunter College's IMA program. Her achievements include a fellowship to the prestigious Killer Films/Stonybrook Southampton 20/20/20 program, a residency with Mabou Mines, and recognition from the Producer's Guild. She has also shared her filmmaking knowledge as a lecturer at Purchase College and Adelphi University.

  • Sharon Cooney Shuttleworth

    Co-owner EUE/Screen Gems Ltd. / President EUE/Documentaries

    Sharon leads marketing and creative initiatives by drawing on her extensive experience and knowledge from decades working in media, marketing and communications for EUE/Screen Gems Ltd. Sharon led the marketing strategy for EUE/Screen Gems Ltd.’s launch of stages in Wilmington, NC; the opening and expansion of the Atlanta studio complex; and marketing initiatives that helped lead blockbusters like “Stranger Things” and “Iron Man 3” to EUE/Screen Gems. With EUE/Documentaries, Sharon is an Executive Producer of “Beyond the Gaze” a documentary that turns the spotlight on the fashion editor’s groundbreaking work as the founding editor of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.

  • Robert J. Lyons

    Producer

    Robert J. Lyons is an Emmy-Nominated producer and filmmaker who's short documentary DECIDING VOTE was recently shortlisted for an Academy Award. He has also produced films for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series and feature documentaries released theatrically by Discovery/HBO, IFC Films, Cohen Media Group, Greenwich Entertainment and Netflix. Known also for his work in movie marketing as the Executive Director of Wheelhouse Creative, he has overseen marketing campaigns for dozens of films and produced numerous documentary companion pieces and featurettes for clients like A24 Films, Neon, Magnolia Pictures and Sony Pictures Classics. Rob is a member of the Producer’s Guild.

  • Jonathan Gray

    Producer

    Jonathan Gray is an attorney, producer and advisor in the independent film community for over 25 years. Since 1996, Jonathan has produced and executive produced nearly 80 documentary and narrative films, including Afghan Dreamers (2022 Paramount+); Truman and Tennessee: An Intimate Conversation (2020 Hamptons Film Festival); Dark Night (2016 Sundance Film Festival); Nightingale (HBO - 2015 Primetime Emmy Nomination); and Blue Caprice (2013 Sundance Film Festival). Jonathan has also provided counsel in connection with a multitude of documentary films including All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (2023 Oscar Nominee for Best Documentary Feature); They Call Me Magic (2022 Apple TV+); and American Factory (2020 Oscar Winner for Best Documentary Feature).

  • Jill Woodward

    Editor

    Jill is a documentary editor and filmmaker. Recent projects include 1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture, Audience Award winner at its premiere at DOC-NYC Film Festival, Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies, a 3-part series for Peacock Network, and a five-part series, Breaking Life, for the Olympics Channel. She edited the feature documentary, This Is Paris, about Paris Hilton, selected for the Tribeca Film Festival in 2020.

    She also worked on the Netflix documentary Get Me Roger Stone, a television documentary China Queer, and the film Divide & Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017.

    She recently wrapped editing on "Beyond the Gaze," a portrait of Jule Campbell, directed by Jill Campbell.

  • Toby Shimin

    Supervising Editor

    Toby Shimin began her film career as a sound editor and switched to picture editing when she cut THE CHILDREN'S STOREFRONT, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Since then, she has edited numerous films that have premiered at Sundance, including, Peabody Award-winning HOW TO DANCE IN OHIO, A LEAP OF FAITH, MARTHA & ETHEL, MISS AMERICA, and EVERYTHING'S COOL. Her SundanceAudience Award-winning films include, OUT OF THE PAST, THIS IS HOME, which was also nominated for an Emmy award in editing, and BUCK, which was short-listed for an Academy Award. Toby received the prestigious Documentary Editing Award at the 2018 Woodstock Film Festival for HBO's 32 PILLS: MY SISTER’S SUICIDE. ERNIE & JOE: CRISIS COPS won a Jury Prize at SXSW where it premiered in 2019 and an Emmy for outstanding editing. In 2020 HBO’S BABY GOD was selected to premiere opening night at SXSW. THE RETURN OF TANYA TUCKER: FEATURING BRANDI CARLILE won the audience award at its SXSW premiere and opened in a wide theatrical release. It also won the Documentary Editing Award at the 2022 Woodstock Film Festival. Among the recent films that Toby has served as a consultant and supervising editor are LOVE GILDA, JACINTA, STORM LAKE, ALWAYS IN SEASON, PAY OR DIE and the 2023 Oscar nominee, THE MARTHA MITCHELL EFFECT. Toby is a principal of Dovetail Films, which she co-founded with Dina Guttmann in 2001. She has served as a mentor for the Edit and Storylabs at the Sundance Institute and Chicken & Egg and is on the advisory boards of FullFrame and Hedgebrook. She joined the faculty of the School of Visual Arts 7 years ago and is co-curator of the documentary film series, Depot Docs.

    Three-time Emmy-nominated composer, Miriam Cutler, is passionate about documentaries. Her work includes HBO, CNN, PBS, Sundance, SXSW, BerlinFF, Tribeca, Emmy, and Oscar-nominated films: RBG, Love Gilda, GabbyGiffords - Won’t Back Down, Til Kingdom Come, Dilemma of Desire, Flannery, Dark Money, The Hunting Ground, Ethel, Lost in La Mancha, Thin, Poster Girl, Vito, KingsPoint, Ghosts of Abu Ghraib, A Plastic Ocean, Licensed To Kill, and many more.   • Nelson Walker

    Director of Photography

    Nelson Walker is a New York-based cinematographer and documentary filmmaker whose work spans production, education, and film programming. He got his start in cinematography working alongside the late Albert Maysles, and since then his work has appeared in many notable films, such as MAKING A MURDER, IRIS, WATCHERS OF THE SKY, CIVIL WAR, THE FIGHT, CAPTURING THE FLAG, THE REVEREND and most recently NAM JUNE PAIK: MOON IS THE OLDEST TV and INVISIBLE BEAUTY. With his partner Lynn True, Nelson also shoots and directs his own films, including LUMO (winner of the Student Academy Award), SUMMER PASTURE (winner of the Peabody Award), and IN TRANSIT, which he co-directed with Albert Maysles and others. In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Nelson is founder of the Congo in Harlem film series (www.congoinharlem.org) and the Kham Film Project (www.khamfilmproject.org), which seeks to expand opportunities for Tibetan filmmakers. Nelson currently serves as Interim Executive Director of Maysles Documentary Center, a Harlem-based non-profit cinema that uses film to promote community, education, and social justice (www.maysles.org). Nelson is a graduate of Brown University and Columbia University School of the Arts.

  • Gregory Gerhard

    Gregory Ge is Jill Campbell’s partner in Red Barn Productions. He has been a cinematographer and producer on Mr. Chibbs, Seat 20D and filmed with Jill and Jule on location since 2018.

  • Iari Varriale

    Lead Assistant Editor/Post Production Coordinator - Iari Varriale is an NYC-based Italian editor and documentary cinematographer who mainly works with essayistic forms and observational documentaries.

    He holds an MSc in Chemistry from the University of Pisa and an MA in Documentary Film from the Baltic Film School, Tallinn University, for which he attended as a full-merit scholarship awardee.
